about the book
Polo is the sport of kings, playboys and millionaires – or is it?
Polo – King of Sports addresses some of the myths about the sport and portrays in words and images the world of low-goal polo. It is a world populated by obsessive people addicted to their sport and united by a shared love of horses.
The book describes what happens before, during and after a game, providing a behind-the-scenes insight into the sport. It shows not just the glamorous spectacle of the polo action but also celebrates the work of the grooms and the other officials who make the game happen.
It describes the thriving world of military polo, as well as the closely related and exciting sport of arena polo.
The stars of the show are the polo ponies themselves, supreme athletes and magnificent animals. There are few finer sights than polo ponies at full speed, side by side, as the players compete for the ball.
The book provides an insight into a world of exciting sporting action and adrenaline-fuelled passion.
